Mathematics Education Advisor

Project description

Cuttington University (CU) in Liberia has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to serve as a Mathematics Education Advisor. Cuttington University (CU) offers 11 degrees and 8 certificates in its undergraduate programs, including Mathematics in the College of Natural Sciences. Peace Corps Liberia has been a long-time partner to Cuttington University, and previous PCRVs have supported the university as mathematics and biology lecturers from 2013-2020.

The PCRV will be a member of the College of Natural Sciences and will support the university by teaching courses in Remedial Math and Pre-Calculus I. The PCRV will also attend the College’s monthly meetings and contribute ideas for improvement. The goal of this assignment is to support the Cuttington University College of Natural Sciences to provide lifelong transferrable skills, knowledge, and attitudes by teaching.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Liberia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required skills

• Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or related subject
• Experience with teaching developmental mathematics in the areas of remedial math and pre-calculus
• High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility
