Math and Science Teacher Trainer

Project description

The Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI) in Liberia has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Math and Science Teacher Trainer. This institution is responsible to train both pre-service and in-service candidates to learn the basics of teaching, in order to obtain a teaching certificate that will qualify them to teach in Liberia. The country has gaps in the number of teachers in math and science across the country at all levels and has identified a need for additional support for the teacher training activities.

The PCRVs will collaborate with KRTTI staff to provide technical support to trainers in Math and Science. The PCRVs will plan and facilitate workshops for trainers and teach trainees in the areas of Science and Mathematics. The PCRVs will also supervise, assess, and evaluate trainees during practicum. The goal of this assignment is to continue to strengthen the pipeline of math and science professionals.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Liberia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science and/or Mathematics
• At least two years of experience in teaching math and/or science in the formal or non-formal sector
• Experience in mentoring others
• High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility
