Elon Law is the preeminent school for engaged and experiential learning in law. Our philosophy of “learning by doing” through our Residency-in-Practice Program recently earned recognition by The National Jurist’s preLaw Magazine. Elon Law students also benefit from the guidance of four professional mentors, including a practicing attorney with whom you will be matched during your first month of law school.
With a tuition guaranteed not to increase once you enroll, students complete Elon Law’s accelerated seven-trimester program in 2.5 years, offering early access to the legal profession in less time and with greater cost savings than a traditional private law school.

Coverdell Fellows are eligible for additional merit-based scholarships. All admitted students are automatically considered for these institutional scholarships, and approximately 85 percent of admitted students receive a scholarship, with a median amount of approximately $55,000. Coverdell Fellows will be considered for these scholarships as well.

Every Elon Law student completes a course-connected, full-time legal residency with a law firm, judge, corporation, or nonprofit as part of the school’s required curriculum. This immersive approach to law school accelerates student professional development by early exposure to the realities of the legal profession during their second year of study.
Residencies create the opportunity for partnerships between Elon Law and the practicing bar and bench, unlike any working relationship in the profession. Through residencies, judges and lawyers shape the future of the profession of law. They teach future colleagues about the ethics, professionalism, knowledge, skill and judgment essential to the profession’s relevance and effectiveness in society. Unlike typical summer programs, residencies enable supervising judges and lawyers to benefit from student assistance throughout the year, allowing legal organizations to spread out their engagement with law students.
Coverdell Fellows will have opportunities to complete their residencies in public interest legal placements with organizations that assist disadvantaged, underserved, or marginalized communities. Placements may include (but are not limited to) Legal Aid of North Carolina, the Family Justice Centers of Guilford and Alamance counties, or Elon Law’s Humanitarian Immigration Law Clinic.

Application requirements
For the foreseeable future, the application fee for all applicants is waived. If a fee is reinstated, then Coverdell Fellows will have the fee waived. You will apply through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) at the following web page: https://www.elon.edu/e/law/admissions/how-to-apply/index.html.
Coverdell Fellows applicants will be evaluated for law school admission utilizing the same criteria as for all applicants. Successful applicants will have a competitive LSAT score and undergraduate GPA, a record of involvement in co-curricular and/or community activities, strong work experience and other factors indicating a strong probability of academic success and contributions to the law school community. If more than two admitted applicants apply for the Coverdell Fellows program in a given year, then the two Fellows for that year will be chosen based on the general admissions information mentioned above, as well as their statements of interest in the Coverdell Fellows program.
Admissions process
Coverdell Fellows applicants should contact the admissions office via letter or email ([email protected]) indicating an interest in selection for the Coverdell Fellowship, either prior to or contemporaneous with submitting their Elon Law application. They will be requested to submit their official Peace Corps Description of Service, as well as a short statement discussing their interest in the Coverdell Fellows program. Fellows candidates should submit this information as soon as possible, and no later than July 1 of the year they are seeking law school admission.
Elon Law extends admissions offers and scholarship awards on a rolling basis from September 1 through the beginning of school in early August. Selected Coverdell Fellows will be notified of their Fellows awards on a rolling basis throughout the admissions cycle, usually within a few weeks of their Elon Law admission, and no later than July 15.
