Nutritional Sciences pursues new knowledge about diet and human nutrition to improve public health and advance our understanding of contemporary nutrition issues. There is growing national and global interest in nutritional sciences, with intensifying research and scholarship related to topics like obesity, chronic disease risks, food safety and security, global hunger and undernutrition, and the environmental and health impacts of agriculture.
At Michigan Public Health, you'll conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary research that provides innovative solutions to a variety of nutrition-related problems. From nutrigenomics and epigenetics to the clinical and community translation of nutritional sciences, our faculty provide a breadth of knowledge, skills, research opportunities, and field experience to students seeking a robust curriculum in cellular, physiological, epidemiological, global, and public health nutrition.

The primary purpose of the internship is to help the student learn how to apply theory and principles to the realities of work situations and to develop and expand professional skills and competencies essential to these tasks. The student will explore areas of interest and become acquainted with agencies, community and other organizations engaged in Nutritional Sciences-related work. Each NS MPH student is required to complete 318 hours of an internship between years 1 and 2 of the degree program. Students intern at local food banks, health departments, community gardens and clinics, summer feeding programs and other underserved domestic areas.

Admissions process
Check the box for RPCV and indicate in your personal statement that you would like to be considered for the Coverdell Fellowship. After you have been admitted to the NS department, we will inform you of whether or not you have been selected as a Coverdell Fellow.
