Before You Apply

Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with significant professional and technical experience.

Project Description

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Agribusiness, advanced Spanish, and 1 to 2 years of experience working in economic and social development with women in rural communities is needed to serve as a Women’s Economic Empowerment Specialist with CARE Peru. The goal of CARE Peru’s "She Feeds the World" project is for small-scale producing women, youth, and their families to exercise their rights to food and nutritional security. The project works directly with women to strengthen their abilities and confidence in sustainable agricultural practices, financial inclusion, commitment towards the market, gender equality and food and nutritional security; having people better trained to develop resilience to climate changes and variability, and at the same time committing to men and boys to support the efforts towards greater equality. The assistance of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to support the CARE team with innovative market analysis strategies for rural businesses, with financial training using non-formal education, and with experience and action systemization to better strengthen these women. In August 2020, CARE will be in the second year of the project and will begin planning for the 3rd year, and the presence of the volunteer will be key for the programming of activities.

The PCRV will work with the CARE team to help strengthen the staff who train the target women and provide them with tools to maximize results. The PCRV will contribute to the work carried out by CARE Peru for the strengthening of the target population’s abilities in marketing tools using the methodology defined in the Farmers Field Business School (FFBS) guide. The volunteer will also help the cooperatives and associations to search for new sale channels for the existing products, and analyze the structure of these groups, make recommendations about how women can participate more equally, and begin to implement these changes. The goal of the assignment is to build the capacity of the CARE team to carry out the "She Feeds the World" project, which will contribute to the reduction of chronic malnutrition and anemia indicators in children under 5 years of age, as well as increased household income.
