Secondary School EFL Teacher
Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with significant professional and technical experience.
Individuals interested in this position should have a degree in education, or a related field, or teaching experience as they are needed to assist Ukrainian teachers and students in broadening personal, professional and academic opportunities through English. The PCRVs will promote democracy through teaching processes including new methodologies that emphasize critical thinking skills, cooperative learning, and greater understanding across international borders. The PCRVs will team-teach classes with Ukrainian colleagues, organize teacher training events in their communities with focus on teaching communicative methodology, improving English language skills of current teachers, and promoting critical thinking and problem solving skills. In addition, the volunteers will be involved in the development of teacher trainings and a binder/electronic collection of English language lesson plans and instructional materials. The goal of this assignment is to promote students’ cross-cultural awareness, communication skills, social activism, and independent learning.
All PCRVs in Ukraine will live with a host family for the first 2 months of service and then they will have the option to find alternative housing. This is done to help with cultural integration and to increase safety and security. At a minimum, the Volunteer will have a private room with a lock on the door.
Please note that this position is one of several that will depart for service in Ukraine at the same time. There is a chance that the departure date could change, and applicants will be notified if the date does change. Please only apply if you are available on the date listed and if you can serve for the entire duration of the project.
● BA/BS in any discipline with at least 30 hours of English, foreign language, or literacy tutoring experience with primary school, middle or high school students, or adults
● Experience developing and/or adapting teaching materials
● Strong teaching, presentation, facilitation, communication skills
● Experience implementing classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other similar instructional interventions to assist students with special educational needs
● Evidence of personal maturity and patience to work under challenging circumstances including flexibility in adapting to local circumstances and constraints
