Field Nutrition Specialist

Before You Apply

Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with significant professional and technical experience.

Project Description

Three Field Nutrition Specialists with intermediate-level French language skills and a degree and work experience in nutrition, health, statistics or a field relevant to international development assistance are needed to work with offices of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in different field offices in Guinea. A Comprehensive Food and Nutrition Security and Vulnerability Analysis (CFSVA+N), conducted by WFP and Guinea’s National Agency of Agriculture and Food Security Statistics in 2018, indicated that 21.8 percent of households are food insecure, with 2.4 percent severely food insecure. The support WFP is giving to education aims to improve the attendance rates of elementary pupils through the daily provision of hot school meals to 131,895 primary school students throughout the school year in targeted prefectures, and WFP also supports communities to produce locally grown food that can be used for school feeding programs. The Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRV) have been requested to strengthen the capacity of WFP sub-office staff, governmental and non-governmental partners to address hunger and malnutrition in targeted communities.

The PCRVs will work with the staff of the WFP Sub-Offices to reinforce skills of field staff on nutrition promotion in vulnerable/target communities; carry out administrative, analytical and field monitoring of nutrition activities; and conduct field visits to health centers, school canteens, storage facilities, etc. The PCRVs may also carry out administrative, analytical and field monitoring of nutrition activities; analyze monthly reports and give feedback to the Head of the Sub-Office and the country nutrition manager to take corrective measures when necessary; and participate in the optimization of the working methods of each sub-office. The overall goal of the assignment is for the PCRVs to build the capacity of each of the WFP Sub Offices to ensure projects are well implemented and monitored.
