Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with significant professional and technical experience.

Project Description

Three Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRV) with a master’s degree in TESOL, ESL, Language Education, Curriculum Development, or related field and at least two years of teaching and/or teacher training experience is needed to work with the University of Comoros to teach in the English Department and assist in implementing the national English language education strategy. The university has requested the collaboration of Peace Corps through the involvement of three PCRVs, who will work as teaching faculty within the English Department to assist with the effective implementation of this program.

The PCRVs will work in close collaboration with the Head of the English department to provide mentoring and coaching for the University English Language Department faculty and co-teach university courses. In addition to teaching and advising at the University’s English Department, the Ministry of Education and the University of Comoros have highlighted several areas where the PCRVs could assist, including working with staff at the American Corner; designing and implementing teacher training and professional development opportunities; strengthening English teacher capacity to speak and teach English; and developing teaching materials, lesson plans, curriculum, and providing technical support for English language teachers. The main goal of the assignment is to work directly with the English Department at the University of Comoros to improve the capacity of the faculty and to implement and strengthen the university’s ESL programming.

Required Skills

• Master of Arts (MA) in TESOL, ESL, Language Education, Curriculum Development, or related field.
• At least two years of teaching and / or teacher training experience.
• At least Basic French, Swahili, Shikomori or Arabic is preferred, but strong technical candidates will be considered with English-only skills.
• Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) OR a minimum of at least two years working overseas in an international development context.
