Project Description

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to serve as a Community Development Specialist for the Ngwenya Town Board (N.T.B.) in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Ngwenya Town is one of the smallest towns in the country with less 3000 residents. With new development taking place in this small town, there is need for the town management to review and restructure the economic landscape to cater for the growing needs of the of the town’s residents. Along the same objective, N.T.B. is currently reviewing its five-year Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and has identified the need to improve the local economic development. One of the main objectives is resource mobilization and youth empowerment (which encompasses improving employability and entrepreneurial skills for in-school and out-of-school youth). The knowledge, experience and skills of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) will help build the capacity of the local staff on best practices and strategies to drive the local economic objective under the IDP and the PCRV’s advice and guidance will help the local staff effectively support the local youth and groups on their income-generating projects and businesses.

The Community Development Specialist, with a bachelor’s degree in Community Development or another relevant field and 2 years’ experience in community development, local economic development, resource mobilization and working with rural communities, is needed to work with local staff to build the capacity of different groups of men, women and youth on writing a business plan or proposal, resource mobilization and marketing, financial management literacy, and designing sustainability strategies for their community projects. The overall goal is for the PCRV to assist N.T.B. to review the current IDP and make recommendation on how it can be improved and provide support and guidance to local community groups on their income generation projects or businesses.
