Communication and Environmental Education Specialist

Before You Apply

Peace Corps Response positions are open to returned Volunteers or U.S. citizens with significant professional and technical experience.

Project Description

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) with a degree in Communication, IT, or Environmental Education and 3 years’ experience in environmental education and communication (including training, curriculum development, and resource materials for different populations) is needed to serve as Communication and Environmental Education Specialist at the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM). WESM is a non-profit, NGO, and member of international conservation organizations. The core work of each branch includes supporting school-based “Wildlife Clubs”, with the goal of enhancing environmental knowledge and involvement, and currently there are some 1500 clubs across Malawi. In line with the ONE WESM strategy 2017-2022, WESM is working to strengthen its branches in staff capacity and in delivering WESM’s core activities. Environmental Education and Advocacy, Research and Natural Resource Management are the key programs that WESM implements that contribute to the objectives of Malawi’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.

The Communication and Environmental Education Specialist will work closely with the Environmental Education officer who oversees school clubs and community wildlife clubs. They will review Information Education Communication (IEC) materials that are utilized by WESM’S Portfolio (brand) for various stakeholders and train staff in the collection, review and management of communication materials (including photos, stories, issues or case studies) that can be used on online platforms including website and social media and print media. The PCRV will also review the curriculum and resources that WESM utilizes in environmental education (most resources used by the organization are outdated) and train WESM staff in the new environmental education curriculum.

Please note these are approximate departure dates and might change due to programmatic need.
