Vocational Training Co-Trainer and Mentor

Project Description

The Gateway Vocational Training Center (GVTC) in Liberia has requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Vocational Training Co-Trainer and Mentors. Quality technical and vocational training is much needed in Liberia since many young people are unemployed and lack the skills required by industries for employment. Through offering construction related training programs and short courses, GVTC increases employment among youth and adults, strengthens the private sector and therefore economic growth in Liberia and contributes to the development of Liberia’s infrastructure. The implementation of the different three-year programs as well as the short courses has started, and the number of trainees will increase significantly after the move to the newly constructed training grounds in Bensonville City by beginning of next year. The three-year training programs focus on electrical and solar installation, plumbing and pipefitting and road maintenance and construction. An expansion in the field of wood processing (carpentry and furniture making) is currently being evaluated.

The PCRV will support the GVTC Head of Training in reviewing existing curricula and training materials, training programs and vocational short courses, co-train sessions for the three-year programs and the vocational short courses, and co-design more interactive and gender-sensitive/inclusive training and learning materials. The PCRV will also work collaboratively with the GVTC trainers and share strategies and tips for effective vocational training through activities such as peer observation, trainer workshops, training of trainers. The overall goal of this assignment is to strengthen the organization’s capacity to pursue its mission to offer quality vocational education to all and supply the labor market.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Liberia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
