Research and Extension Development Specialist

Project Description

Bohol Island State University (BISU), Calape Campus and Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) Lemery Campus in the Philippines have requested the support of Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to serve as Research and Development Specialists. The PCRVs will work collaboratively with faculty and staff of each university. As a state university, BISU and NIPSC are mandated to provide higher level instruction, promote research and extension services, advance studies and progressive leadership in all academic fields. Developing student research capabilities through relevant research and establishing research-based extension programs to promote economic, social and cultural development are among the college’s objectives. The universities are evaluated regularly and recent evaluations have emphasized that more capacity building activities should be done, specifically to build efficient research practices and to build the confidence on the part of the faculty when conducting research.

The PCRVs will each serve as a technical expert to strengthen and develop research among faculty and students that is relevant and will create an impact with the stakeholders through global and international linkages for effective curriculum, instruction, and research. The PCRVs will review and assess the campus’ current research practices and development efforts, conduct trainings and/or workshop activities with faculty members on research methods, data analysis and modeling, the creation of valid research questionnaires, and will act as resource person, giving guest lectures in school academic activities, among other relevant activities. The main goal of each assignment is to advise and consult with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to strengthen the capacity of each university to foster an effective and efficient research culture among faculty and also the extension services.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
