Physical Therapy Specialist
Project Description
The Center for Excellence in Special Education (Stepping Stone) Foundation in the Philippines has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to serve as a Physical Therapy Specialist to assist with the development of physical therapy services. Stepping Stone provides diagnostic, therapeutic, educational and pre-vocational services and facilities for students with learning and behavioral difficulties. Children with learning and behavioral disorders belong to a neglected sector of Philippine society, but with proper care and training, they can become independent and even make major contributions to society, and Stepping Stone provides a valuable and much needed service to a marginalized community.
The Physical Therapy Specialist will work closely with a Physical Therapy clinical supervisor to expand classroom-based PT services including planning, pre-teaching and support of students in classroom gross motor activities, sensory-motor regulation activities and PE. The Response Volunteer will also train PT interns by guided instruction and develop a training format for the PT clinical supervisor and university interns to provide effective parent/guardian education through parent training modules, parent observations of treatment sessions, home program development and tracking of home program compliance. The main goal of the assignment is to build the long-term capacity of the organization by enhancing the technical skills of PT interns and expand the development of the PT Department as service delivery increases for its students and outpatients.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

• At least 5 years working experience in Pediatric Physical Therapy or school-based PT
• Culturally-sensitive to local conditions
