Pharmacy Educator

Project Description

Advancing Health Professionals (AHP): a Peace Corps Response program, is seeking a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Pharmacy Educator with Eswatini Medical Christian University without the provision of direct medical care to patients or clinical supervision of students. The position requires a doctorate in pharmacy, current pharmacy licensure, experience with curriculum development, experience in teaching and research supervision at university level, be a team player, and flexible to serve in under-resourced settings with experience living/working in different cultures. Good communication skills, knowledge of Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), good presentation skills, mentoring, clinical, and research skills are desired qualifications.

The Pharmacy program at Eswatini Medical Christian University (EMCU) provides training that aims at strengthening the health sector in meeting the human resource needs faced by the Ministry of Health. The 2009 Human Resource for Health Report shows that health service delivery in Eswatini continues to be hindered by shortage of human resources for health.

The growing need for evidence-based patient management requires highly trained pharmacy practitioners who will work at the highest level of quality. Hospitals and other health care facilities, as well as accrediting entities, consider it a pre-requisite for any pharmacy to be run by competent and well-trained individuals, and our aim is to produce such health cadres.

The PCRV will teach pharmacy lessons, supervise student on their research proposals, develop curriculum, policy and procedures and assess program outcomes. PCRVs are expected to report on their activities twice during their service.

Peace Corps Response established its "Advancing Health Professionals" program in 2019. Response Volunteers serving with the AHP program seek to improve health outcomes on a societal level by providing high-level, specialized service in the health sector. AHP projects include health professions educators, health systems strengthening, service delivery improvement, and other non-clinical interventions that enhance the quality of healthcare.

Invitees will be arriving in Eswatini together as a group. While the whole group's departure dates could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
