Project Description

A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) with experience in project management, proposal writing, and designing and facilitating training is needed to assist the Samtskhe-Javakheti Regional Administration in Georgia. The Administration coordinates the implementation of regional policy and the work of local self-governments in six districts in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. One of the goals of the Administration is to provide opportunities and services to local communities and engage community members in cultural, sport, and educational activities, and the Administration is also working on projects to support tourism development in the region. The PCRV’s help will be needed to improve the capacity of Administration staff members in planning and management, English language, and other organizational development needs.

One of the biggest goals is the development of an agency that will be responsible for promoting tourism in Samtskhe-Javakheti, and this new agency is called “Destination Management”. Therefore, the PCRV will work with local staff to identify new ideas in the field of tourism; as well as design, manage, and implement various projects and activities. As the Administration staff members lack the necessary fluency in English language, the PCRV’s help will also be needed in improving their English language communication and writing skills, which will help the staff to be better equipped for communicating and establishing relations with foreign partners, and improving visibility of the Administration’s work with international donor organizations or colleagues outside the country. The overall goal of this assignment will be to conduct a needs assessment and support Administration to address the training, programmatic, organizational development needs identified.

Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Georgia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
