Education Specialist for Teacher Training College
The Gambia College has requested two Peace Corps Response Volunteers with a master’s degree in education and at least 4 years of experience teaching at the college level to serve as Education Specialists for Teacher Training College. The School of Education of The Gambia College is responding to the ever increasing demand to supply the need for teachers in the public schools, grant-aided schools, and private schools. There are 8,164 students enrolled in the School of Education currently. The support of two (PCRVs) has been requested to work with the School of Education, and the faculties of Math and Science have been identified as the most significant priorities for support. Each PCRV will work separately with different faculties within the School of Education and will focus on students and lecturers administering the Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs of the college.
Each PCRV will work together with staff on the college curriculum to co-plan and co-develop schemes of work for individual departments in order to be more interactive and better meet the needs of teachers. The PCRVs will teach one or more core subjects after collaborating with department staff to develop lecture notes and educational materials from the existing college curriculum for those subjects. The PCRVs will also assist in supervising students during practicum, aiding in the development of learning objectives. The Gambia College's goals are that all instructors will improve their teaching skills and approaches, students will receive a quality education in education, and available teaching materials will be expanded and adapted to the local context of The Gambia.
