Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Curriculum Development Specialist
Project Description
Benguet State University (BSU) in the Philippines has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Curriculum Development Specialist. The BSU College of Nursing is establishing a diploma course and master’s program on emergency and disaster risk management. The College has committed to take a vital role in the development of a university emergency and disaster risk management office. Both commitments are in response to the global and local call to making the difference for poverty, health, and resilience as stipulated in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. In Benguet province and in the Cordillera region, none among the 6 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) offers a professional study on emergency and DRM; only one private education institution in the region offers a master’s program on DRRM. The development of a university emergency and disaster risk management office requires the assistance of an expert whose perspective and approach may unify various emergency and DRRM initiatives amongst the stakeholders.
The Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Curriculum Development Specialist will assist in the development for the diploma course and master’s program in emergency and disaster risk management. Together with the local supervisor, the PCRV will work with the College of Nursing and conduct education and training workshops on emergency and disaster risk management. Additionally, the Volunteer will work together with the College to develop a university emergency and disaster risk management manual, plan, and council. This assignment is vital for the opening of the emergency and disaster risk management programs, diploma and masters, in partnership with an international institution and the development of a university emergency and DRM office.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
