Project Description
The Agricultural Planning Services Unit of the Department of Agricultural Services in The Gambia has requested the support of an Agricultural Planning Specialist with experience with agricultural data collection and analysis and a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to agricultural development. The Department of Agricultural Services is the government's main technical unit that carries out all agriculture-related development in the country, and the Agricultural Communication Services Unit is responsible for responsible for collecting and processing agricultural statistical data for policy decision making, generation of indicators required to determine the contribution of agriculture to GDP and monitoring and evaluation of agricultural projects and programs. Currently, the unit needs additional support to execute its mandate, which affects the sector performance of the entire country. The Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) will support the APS Unit to build technical capacity to set up a system to collect, collate, analyze, and share agricultural information in a timely manner.
The PCRV will collaborate with the director of the unit and the other technical units of the department to assist in improving current data collection and/or co-designing a data collection system with appropriate and easy to use data collection tools. The PCRV will also train counterparts as trainers for other staff in data collection and analysis. The overall goal of the assignment is to increase the capacity of the Agricultural Planning Services Unit to develop a data-driven agriculture planning and decision-making protocols for The Gambia.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in The Gambia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
