Project Description
The Agricultural Communication Services Unit of the Department of Agricultural Services in The Gambia has requested the support of an Agricultural Communication and Information Technology Specialist with experience training adults in information communication techniques and a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to agricultural communications. The Department of Agricultural Services is the government's main technical unit that carries out all agriculture-related development in the country, and the Agricultural Communication Services Unit is responsible for disseminating agricultural information such as new technology, techniques, and good practices to the Gambian community farmers and other stakeholders. Currently, the unit needs additional support to execute its mandate, which affects the sector performance of the entire country. The Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) will support the technical capacity of the Agriculture Communication Services Unit to set up a system to create audio-visual communications, graphic design fliers and video to share agricultural information in a timely manner.
The PCRV will collaborate with the director of the unit and the other technical units of the department to assist in the creation of videos, fliers, and other communication tools to disseminate agricultural information to a largely illiterate population. The PCRV will also train counterparts as trainers for other staff in graphic design and other information communication techniques. The overall goal of the assignment is increase the capacity of the Agricultural Communication Services Unit to create graphic images to depict agricultural messages or information.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in The Gambia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
