I am a speech pathologist and autism resource specialist with over 20 years of experience who came to the Philippines as a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to supervise and train interns. What a perfect match it has been.

Current Projects and Initiatives in Peace Corps Response

  • Health

Peace Corps Response Volunteers pilot new and innovative interventions in the areas of malaria prevention, maternal health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, occupational therapy, health-care administration, and more. Volunteers address specific gaps in care, facilitate health promotion efforts for nongovernmental organizations, and assist with the creation and implementation of community health worker volunteer programs.

  • Community Economic Development

Peace Corps Response Volunteers influence positive behavior change at the grassroots level. Volunteers make a difference in the livelihoods of families and communities worldwide through their work in fields such as business development, microfinance, information technology, organizational development, and entrepreneurship. Volunteers work directly with community groups and national organizations in focused assignments to provide skills training, strengthen internal operations, and expand community outreach.

  • Agriculture

From assisting host country governmental agencies, such as the ministry of agriculture, shape policy on a regional or national level to partnering directly with local nongovernmental organizations to encourage the adoption of sustainable conservation practices at the community level, Volunteers make a lasting impact in the communities they serve. Volunteers partner with multilateral organizations such as the U.N. World Food Program and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization to increase crop productivity and eliminate barriers that contribute to food insecurity.

  • Education

Peace Corps Response offers education assignments across the globe in critical need areas, such as English as a foreign language, mathematics, science, special education, and university-level training. Volunteers work alongside local teachers to introduce innovative teaching techniques at all levels of instruction, from primary school classrooms in rural villages to teacher preparation programs at urban universities.
