Country Director's Welcome for Tonga

Mālō e lelei! We warmly welcome you to the webpage for Peace Corps Tonga!  Peace Corps has been working with the people of the Kingdom of Tonga since 1967, making it one of the longest-running and most established programs in the world.  In fact, well over 1700 Volunteers have served here in nearly every sector! The work of Peace Corps contributes to the collaborative development efforts here in the Friendly Isles and serves to promote better understanding between the people of Tonga and the United States.  Volunteers are an integral part of a larger team which includes Peace Corps staff and our Tongan hosts and partners. Together we are making a positive difference and promoting world peace and friendship. Those brave and fortunate enough to join our team, join a respected legacy of service, friendship and cultural understanding in Tonga. We are one team, working together to maintain an effective program of grassroots development and people-to-people cooperation that provides sustainable results for the people and communities of Tonga.  Good communication, mutual respect, and trust are essential components of our effective team and are attributes expected of all Peace Corps Volunteers and staff. We believe that everyone has a story to tell, a gift to give and space in their heart to fill. Therefore, we commit to recruiting, training, retaining and supporting all of our Volunteers through a lens of intercultural appreciation, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. Whether you are an RPCV with a legacy, an applicant with a vision or a friend or family member looking to better support and understand someone with Peace Corps Tonga in their sights, we welcome you to explore our resources and stories as you continue writing your own. Mālō ‘aupito, ‘ofa lahi atu!
