6 Volunteer roles for nurse educators who are ready to serve
National Nurses Week, May 6-12, has been celebrated for nearly 30 years. The special week honors the contributions and sacrifices of nurses around the globe and reminds us to thank these dedicated health professionals who care for us and keep us healthy. This year, the Advancing Health Professionals team wants to specifically highlight nurse educators — those who have a passion for educating future nurses.

Advancing Health Professionals (AHP) is a Peace Corps Response program that aims to strengthen health systems and improve professional education in Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, and Eswatini. AHP is recruiting nurse educators to help bridge health care gaps by sharing their skills and knowledge in 6 to 12-month Volunteer assignments.
AHP assignments for nurse educators are typically focused on classroom education, curriculum development, and skills simulation labs. The assignments contribute to outcomes that can benefit and be replicated by the entire country of assignment. Response Volunteers in the AHP program do not work directly with patients, nor are they involved in administering clinical research. Nurses with advanced degrees and advanced practice nursing certifications are highly preferred.

Nurse educators play a critical role in promoting quality nursing education across the world. In the AHP program, Volunteers in nurse education assignments work collaboratively with their partners and counterparts to enhance the steady supply of confident and competent “practice-ready” graduates. These graduates are equipped to enter the health workforce and contribute to strengthening health systems with the ultimate goal of comprehensive national health coverage.
