11 interesting volunteer opportunities for 12 months or less

Peace Corps Response offers volunteer opportunities for experienced professionals to serve in communities around the world. 

Volunteers serve in highly specialized assignments from three to 12 months and are often the first on the ground when the agency opens a new country program, reopens a suspended country or pilots partnerships. 

1. Special Education Teacher and Trainer
Country: Lesotho
Duration: 12 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree or certification in special education, at least two years of experience teaching children and adults with special needs, at least two years of experience conducting assessments and conducting education/literacy-related trainings 

2. Soccer & Youth Development Specialist
Country: Panama
Duration: 12 months
Snapshot of qualifications: advanced proficiency in Spanish, bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, or related field, at least two years of experience as a soccer coach or equivalent experience playing soccer in college 

3. Grants and Communications Specialist
Country: Tanzania
Duration: 6 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree, at least five years of experience in grants management, professional experience in writing

4. Agribusiness Specialist
Country: Guinea
Duration: 9 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness or related field, French proficiency preferred, at least two years of experience preparing training modules 

5. HIV/AIDS Education Facilitator
Country: Zambia
Duration: 12 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree in education, public health, psychology, biology, or related field, three years of experience working in HIV outreach or sexual health, experience working in a classroom setting 

6. ICT Curriculum Development Specialist
Country: Philippines
Duration: 9 months
Snapshot of qualifications: master’s degree in computer science or information technology, two years of experience in the IT industry and related training activities, two years of experience in a university setting 

7. Endangered Species Conservation Specialist
Country: Peru 
Duration: 12 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree in biology or related field, advanced proficiency in Spanish, three years of experience in biological monitoring of amphibians

8. Chemistry Instructor
Country: Liberia
Duration: 11 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least two years of teaching experience 

9. English Education Specialist
Country: Georgia
Duration: 6 months
Snapshot of qualifications: degree in education, English education management, or related field, experience teaching English to secondary school students, experience in conducting trainings for teachers 

10. Plastic Injection Mold Fitter/Adjuster
Country: Mexico
Duration: 12 months
Snapshot of qualifications: bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least five years of experience in the manufacturing industry with specialization in mold adjustment

11. Fire Management Specialist
Country: Mexico
Duration: 6 months
Snapshot of qualifications: degree in natural sciences, biology, natural resources management, or related field or more than 10 years of wild land fire planning and ecological monitoring experience
