VIDEO: Talibé Soccer Tournament 2017

For the last six years, the Saint Louis region Peace Corps Volunteers have hosted the Talibé Soccer Tournament in partnership with the city’s Youth Center and NGO Taliberté. Talibés are children who are sent to Islamic schools at a young age to learn the Quran. They often beg on the streets to collect donations. This tournament provides a safe opportunity for these young children to be kids.

As a lifelong volunteer and intern at various grass roots organizations, Alex has always been drawn to overcoming challenging situations to helping others. It was a minor in French and B.S. in Environmental Science that brought him to Senegal as an Agroforestry Volunteer (2014-2016). He has since extended his contract twice as the Multimedia and Communications Coordinator (2016-2018) for Peace Corps Senegal.
