Co-teach English as a Foreign Language in a Public Secondary School
Open to all RPCVs
Peace Corps Volunteers have successfully co-taught and co-planned English in public schools in the Kyrgyz Republic for 28 years. While the Virtual Service Pilot Participants (VSPPs) will serve in a significantly different way, they are requested to continue to support this effort. The PC/Kyrgyz Republic Logical Project Framework has the goals of 1) teachers improving teaching skills, 2) teachers improving English skills, 3) students improving English skills, and 4) school communities improving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. This project will directly address those four skill-building activities. Counterparts, directors, and regional educational authorities have expressed interest in continued engagement with Peace Corps through support from VSPPs to benefit teachers and students alike. The VSPP will primarily engage in technical training for counterparts and/or other groups of English teachers.
Virtual service engagement and tasks
• Participants and counterparts will co-create a work plan for co-planning and co-teaching in English with students at a ministry school. This work plan would include times, dates, formats (synchronous/asynchronous), platforms to be used (Zoom, WhatsApp, email, etc.) for both co-planning and co-teaching
• VSPPs and Counterparts will co-plan and co-teach a minimum of one English lesson per week during the school year through May, 2022
This engagement is expected to be approximately 16 weeks. VSPPs are expected to engage on the tasks listed above for an estimated 5-15 hours per week.
• Meetings between VSPPs and Host Country Counterparts will be determined during orientation and will take place during the week and/or weekend
• Classes in Kyrgyzstan normally take place between 8:00am to 4:00pm local time Specific class times with the VSPP will be determined during orientation
The Host Country Counterpart will have access to Zoom, WhatsApp, and email for regular communication and collaboration.
Per the Child Protection Code of Conduct, when engaging online with minors (0-18), two adults must be present.
Optional additional activities
The Peace Corps mission is to promote world peace and friendship by fulfilling three goals:
- To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
- To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.

Goal 1 will be achieved through the VSPP's engagement and completion of the above tasks. The counterpart and VSPP may also choose to identify an activity that aligns with Goal 2.
