About the organization
KTMB is a private, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement. For over 30 years, KTMB has been working with schools, businesses, municipalities, community groups, and individuals to keep our open space areas, the Truckee River, business corridors, and neighborhoods beautiful for all to enjoy through our education programs, beautification, and cleanups.
The Youth Educator AmeriCorps will be an essential member of KTMB’s team. This person will primarily schedule and present Warriors lessons to K-12 students throughout Washoe County for school classrooms, after-school clubs, summer day camps, and other youth programs. The Youth Educator will maintain relationships with the educators who request to schedule Warriors presentations, obtain and upload data from each presentation, and prepare and refill supplies for each presentation. The Youth Educator will also assist the Youth Education Coordinator with enhancing the curricula and conducting KTMB’s biannual teacher training event.
Passionate commitment to KTMB’s mission and vision;
Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, or a related field;
At least one year of experience teaching or leading youth in a formal setting, such as school classroom, environmental education center, nature center, after-school program and/or summer camp
Strong communication and public speaking skills;
Strong writing skills;
Strong organizational skills;
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
Preferred: strong understanding of education standards;
Preferred: reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language
Required: high degree of initiative, spirit of service, and a sense of humor
In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $11,294, and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,441.50.
