Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) is hiring a Youth Program Assistant for our Middle School Friends Program. The Middle School Friends Program Assistant aids the Middle School Friends Program Facilitator in creating space for experiencing the movement of Spirit within and among the community of 6-8th graders. The Assistant helps to steward a sense of community, safety, and meaningful relationships among the middle school age Quakers and their integration into the life of the wider Yearly meeting.
This a part-time position (up to 260 hours per year) that requires working events on weekends and several overnight gatherings a year.

Attends all Middle School Friends events (1 overnight, 5 weekend long gatherings, and Annual Sessions).
Works closely with the Middle School Friends Program Facilitator to ensure that gatherings go as planned and offers constructive feedback about changes in structure and content after each event to continuously improve the program.
Occasionally develops and leads workshops/activities during Middle School Friends gatherings.
Helps the Facilitator to integrate volunteer Friendly Adult Presences into the community and their role within it.
Helps with food prep during gatherings.
Acts as a second set of eyes, noticing behavioral issues and negative social dynamics, as well as opportunities for spiritual exploration and fun.

An active Friend or extensive experience with Friends’ meetings; knowledge of Quaker principles and practice
One or more years of experience in a related field, which can include related educational attainment, is required.
One or more years’ substantial experience working with middle school age youth is required.
Able to work with children, youth and adults, and to facilitate groups to develop their interests, gifts and skills
Understands inclusivity dynamics, especially in relationship to age, gifts, LGBTQIA+, ability, gender, sexuality, race and class; knowledgeable in crisis intervention
Strong communication skills are needed, including the ability to speak clearly, to listen deeply, and to write well.
Able to travel
Able to drive and rent cars
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening work
Able to commit to serving in the position for three years
