About the organization

The mission of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation (BBHLF) is to improve lives through the power of literacy. Since 2013, we have been serving as a champion for the literacy cause across the Greater Houston Area, playing several vital roles: (1) increasing awareness of the literacy crisis in our city and elevating literacy as a priority for our city; (2) mobilizing volunteers to expand the capacity of evidence-based literacy programs through meaningful activities and events; (3) serving as a thought leader across the community and convening cross-sector stakeholders; and (4) investing in creation of new or expanding existing literacy programs and services through strategic partnerships and financial investments. The population served by this project will be predominately economically disadvantaged elementary and preschool-aged children and their families in the Greater Houston Area. Houston is our nation’s fourth largest and most diverse city.

Duties

The Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement VISTA will support auxiliary member recruitment activities. Assist with membership tracking, onboarding of new members, and placement/support of members in volunteer engagement opportunities within auxiliary and foundation-sponsored programs and events. Plan engagement events and activities. The VISTA member will track membership and volunteer participation. The member will develop processes and procedures for creating operational efficiencies and optimizing impact.

Qualifications

Terms :
Permits attendance at school during off hours, Car recommended, Permits working at another job during off-hours .
