Volunteer Coordinator

Catholic Charities of Southeast MI

About the organization

Compelled by the love and teachings of Jesus Christ, Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan provides compassionate, quality, professional services and support to people in need.

CCSEM strives to be the organization of choice for people in need, transforming lives, encountering Christ, and mobilizing hope in our community.

CCSEM has over 20 programs serving the six county area surrounding Detroit, Mi. The programs focus on seniors, Latino immigrants, behavior health, and child welfare.

This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty.
The tri-county area surrounding the city of Detroit is home to nearly half a million seniors. Too many of them are living near or below the poverty level. The Senior Outreach Program of the Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan was born of the pandemic and the need for seniors to remain home for their health and safety. It started as a grocery delivery program but uncovered a great need for help by so many of our seniors. The future of the Senior Outreach Program includes chore services, transportation, case management, and a robust referral program. We are looking to engage the local parishes of the Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) and the greater community to build a network of volunteers dedicated to helping seniors live independently and with dignity in their own home.
We are looking for an individual to help lay the groundwork for policies and processes for our network of volunteers. The coordinator will build and foster relationships with those looking to serve their community. As the practices are put into place, the coordinator will continue recruiting and using volunteers across metro Detroit to help seniors stay in their own homes by bringing goods and services directly to them.

This position requires public speaking skills, medium level computer skills, and a desire to engage the community to help our aging population. Some college is preferred but experience can always replace that.
