About the organization
At Arkansas Children's Research Institute (ACRI), we champion children by making them healthier today and better tomorrow. Our Healthy Food for Arkansas program serves to support initiatives and organizations aimed at improving access to foods necessary for health and well-being.
This is a ONE YEAR AmeriCorps assignment.
A detailed VAD is available. Some duties included are:
Support recruitment of high quality VISTAs
Conduct monthly VISTA member training and coordinate ongoing professional development
Facilitate a successful year of service for VISTAs
Increase project and member effectiveness by monitoring member and Project Host Site reports
Work with supervisor to ensure overall project stability and sustainability
Form a plan with supervisor for the monthly on-site orientation and training (OSOT); gather orientation materials, draft agenda, secure presenters/facilitators, etc.
Lead OSOT, utilizing facilitator/educator skills, to ensure that VISTAs understand all AmeriCorps policies/procedures and project schedule as well as Healthy Food for Arkansas’ work on increasing access to healthy foods
Evaluate and report on the OSOT to the supervisor, defining changes to be made for the next OSOT
Identify learning needs of VISTAs and develop calendar of trainings on topics such as cultural diversity, conflict resolution, poverty, and volunteer management
Secure local instructors to present trainings or prepare to deliver training
Facilitate and encourage peer learning among VISTAs
Maintain professional development log for all VISTA Members, distribute completion certificates
To be eligible VISTA leaders must have successfully completed ANY of the following:
• At least one full year of VISTA service
• At least one full term of service as a full time AmeriCorps State and National member
• At least one full term of service as a member of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps
• At least one traditional term of service as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Successful completion of full term of service is defined as:
• 365 days with VISTA
• 1,700 hours with AmeriCorps State and National
• 1,700 hours with NCCC
• One traditional Peace Corps service term
Multiple part time service terms cannot be combined to equal one full time service term.
