VISTA Leader for Economic Development in Rural, WY
About the organization
AmeriCorps VISTA achieves its mission by assigning members to sponsoring organizations to build the capacity of those organizations to lift communities out of poverty. Members mobilize community resources, engage individuals in local community service, and increase the capacity of organizations to manage effective anti-poverty programs. It is crucial to the concept of local self-reliance that sponsoring organizations plan for the eventual phase out of members and for the absorption of their functions by other facets of the organization or community.
The VISTA Leader for ED will do the following during their year of service: - Learn the rural culture of the Big Horn Basin; understand PEP’s vision and role in the community regarding economic development; learn project objectives of each of VISTA Sites and their positions; advocate for the VISTA Program locally, regionally and statewide. - Recruit and onboard new VISTA members to serve at PEP Office and at Sub Sites. - Build and maintain group cohesion in PEP’s VISTA “family” from the time VISTA members start through when they exit the program. - Identify training needs of VISTA members, Site Supervisors and Sites, working with PEP Program Supervisor to create annual training program addressing training needs. - Develop avenues and strategies to educate each Site (other than Supervisors) on the AmeriCorps VISTA Program and encourage the community to support PEP’s VISTA members during their terms of service.
