About the organization

The mission of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) is to support the parks department's operating in Truckee Meadows, including Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. We do this primarily by providing in-park programming and opportunities for citizen engagement. TMPF is an independent, nonprofit organization that began operating in 2013. Our current programs focus on improving community health and wellness and developing peoples’ appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks.


The AmeriCorps Visitor Center Host/Coordinator will be an essential member of the team for this young non-profit organization. This person will implement and support the Wetland Restoration Program. The Wetland Restoration Program aims to restore a decommissioned golf course back to a functional wetland system. This AmeriCorps member will assist in communicating the importance of restoration through the development and implementation of environmental education exhibits and events, interacting with Nature Center visitors, and leading interpretive tours of the property.

Facilitate the Wetland Restoration Program;
Design, develop, and create Visitor Center exhibits;
Coordinate use of Visitor Center for programs and events;
Recruit, coordinate, train and retain volunteers;
Develop relationships with Nature Study Area visitors;
Lead interpretive tours throughout the wetland;
Provide information to visitors about the restoration project;
Garden/Planter maintenance;


Passionate commitment to TMPF’s mission and vision;
High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
Exceptional writing skills;
Strong communication skills;
Strong organizational skills;
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Science, or a related field, or 1-2 years related experience;
Preferred: Customer Service experience


In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $11,294, loan forbearance for qualifying student loans, and will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,441.50.
