The new USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance—or BHA—leads and coordinates the U.S. Government's disaster assistance efforts overseas, reaching millions of people around the world with life-saving aid. BHA delivers humanitarian assistance to save lives and alleviate the suffering of people affected by disasters around the world. We also help the world's most vulnerable people prepare, recover, and transition from crisis toward prosperity and self-reliance.

BHA has hundreds of staff located in more than 45 countries and in its Washington, D.C. headquarters, including experts in food security, nutrition, water, health, shelter, logistics, agriculture, protection, and more. BHA staff are recruited through a number of hiring vehicles including PSC Contracts, Institutional Contractors, and USDA Forest Service Office of International Programs.

Qualifications

At the GS-12 equivalent:

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and at least five (5) years of work experience with a humanitarian or development focus. This experience must include responsibility in determining budget levels, selecting programs for funding, or managing/ evaluating programs. Experience must include one (1) year of cumulative international field experience in at least one of the following: humanitarian assistance, emergency management, relief, DRR, post-emergency rehabilitation, recovery, or resilience.

OR

Master’s degree in any discipline and at least four (4) years of work experience with a humanitarian or development focus. This experience must include responsibility in determining budget levels, selecting programs for funding, or managing or evaluating programs. Experience must include one (1) year of cumulative international field experience in at least one of the following: humanitarian assistance, emergency management, relief, DRR, post-emergency rehabilitation, recovery, or resilience.

At the GS-13 equivalent:

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and at least seven (7) years of work experience with a humanitarian or development focus. This experience must include responsibility in determining budget levels, selecting programs for funding, or managing or evaluating programs. Experience must include one (1) year of cumulative international field experience in at least one of the following: *continued on site*
