Crew Member (Preference given to local applicants)
Our crew members don’t need any previous experience. As long as you have a passion for the outdoors, are interested in pursuing a career in the environment, and are a hard worker, you’ll be a great fit for our program! This is a seasonal position, $9/hr.
This is a paid position with weekday hours (Mon-Thurs, 8A - 5P and Fri 8A - 230P). Food and housing are not included. Work will mostly be outdoors and will sometimes require heavy lifting and using equipment such as chainsaws. Team members will work under two team leaders that will serve as SCA’s supervisors. All team members are expected to be respectful, on-time, hard-working, and aware of conditions to ensure a safe working environment.
The South Texas Refuge Complex Corps Team, made up of one Project Leader and four Crew Members (ages 18+), will work on US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) lands in the southernmost areas of Texas for 22 weeks.
The South Texas Refuge Complex Corps Team will focus primarily on mapping invasive species across almost 9,554 acres in Hidalgo, Starr and Cameron Counties. This is a research project with two higher education partners and it is important work that will reduce the risk of wildfire and improve habitat for migratory birds on USFWS lands. This team is for those who love a physical challenge!
