Transportation Specialist (Community Liaison)

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's mission is to protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives. To do this, the agency establishes national policy, sets and enforces standards, educates, and conducts research to prevent incidents. We also prepare the public and first responders to reduce consequences if an incident does occur.


As a Transportation Specialist, you will:

Conduct with another team member and/or participates in workshops and meetings on hazardous materials transportation for other modes, other government agencies or industry groups.
Assist and cooperate with other Federal, State and Local agencies to identify mutual concerns or related problems and recommend solutions. May represent Hazmat Safety at working meetings with these agencies to discuss problems of mutual interests.
Coordinate outreach activities with the regional director to avoid duplication of efforts and to develop operations which compliment both the enforcement and safety assistance programs.
Participate in creating and developing messaging for national activities; provides administrative and programmatic support to OHMSFO in the planning, coordination and execution of special outreach program projects and large official functions.
The ideal candidate will have:
• The ability to learn to or already communicate program policy information to federal and state agencies, the hazardous materials industry, and the public, on regulatory matters relating to the transportation of hazardous materials by air, water, highway and rail modes.
• The ability to learn to or already develop, implement and manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work in a changing environment.
