Town of Cowen Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA

West Virginia Community Development Hub, Inc.

About the organization

The West Virginia Community Development Hub supports West Virginians with the tools and training they need to lead and spark positive change in their hometowns and across our state. In 2009, The Hub was founded by a small group of passionate, committed community development leaders who saw an opportunity to establish a new, innovative approach to catalyze community growth and transformational change in rural areas of West Virginia. Their goal was to create an organization that would serve as a technical assistance provider, a coach for communities, and a team to connect the network of resources available across the state to serve West Virginia communities.
The Hub’s purpose is to
1. Coach volunteer community leadership teams to help them build sustained development in rural communities; and
2. Grow the overall community economic development system in West Virginia through collaborative partnerships that use innovative approaches to address systemic challenges for rural development.

The Town of Cowen, WV, has been working to grow it’s capacity over the past several years. After completing The Hub’s CultivateWV program to kickstart community programs, the Town of Cowen is currently participating in The Hub’s Communities of Achievement Program (HubCAP) and will be participating in The Hub’s upcoming Downtown Appalachia: Revitalizing Recreational Economies (DARRE) program later this year. As they have continued to grow their capacity, the Town of Cowen is seeking a VISTA to support momentum building in the community. This VISTA project will create necessary systems to support new community engagement and volunteer opportunities. The member will lead the development of outreach strategies and metrics, identify cultural heritage development projects with community support, and continue to build momentum in Cowen. The ideal candidate for this position will have a love for community building, strong writing skills, and an interest in reaching people through a variety of forms (relationship building, digital marketing, and more).
This position will start on June 6th, July 5th, or July 8th, 2022, depending on candidate availability. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and will remain open until we find the right candidate.

AmeriCorpsVISTA requires all members to be at least 18 years of age, and to have completed a high school diploma or GED.
Applicants should have the ability to work independently, as well as the ability to use a computer to conduct business
