Texas A&M University Nonprofit Outreach VISTA

The Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) within the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University

About the organization

The Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) within the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University focuses on supporting nonprofit organizations in both the local area and beyond. CNP seeks to improve the effectiveness of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations through engaged learning, high-quality research, and professional outreach. We do this in several ways, one is using available data to conduct research on the local community and nonprofit organizations that attempt to address their needs. This research is shared with the local community to support the sector. Second, is through establishing relationships with local organizations and their leaders, conducting regular meetings with them and maintaining open communication to understand the opportunities and struggles they are facing. CNP currently focuses on the state of Texas and prioritizes underserved areas, especially Bryan and College Station.

The Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) Outreach VISTA will support a vibrant social sector network in the Brazos Valley to better address poverty by working with organizations, network stakeholders, and students. This will be accomplished by conducting research of nonprofit and philanthropic organizations in the community to address needs and establish partnerships with those organizations. The member will implement communication strategies and choose best practices for promotion and delivery of services. The VISTA will include policies and evaluation tools to ensure program sustainability. Additionally, the VISTA will implement a leadership development training toolkit to help guide the CNP network on best practices for nonprofit and philanthropic organization interaction.
