Duties

The Southern & East Africa (SEA) team is looking for two Temporary Project Assistants who will provide administrative and logistical support and assist with program support to the regional functional team. The position will be based in Washington, DC and is a paid temporary (3 months with the option to extend to 6 months) position.

Your Purpose and Impact:

Produce daily news updates for distribution to the team by reviewing foreign and domestic newspapers, magazines, or journal articles.
Research, gather materials and prepare briefs for country or regional specific programs.
Attend meetings and seminars on regional affairs and prepare oral and written presentations to team members.
Assist in the preparation and drafting of periodic reports, such as country-specific political and program updates.
Assist as needed in providing administrative support to assigned country projects, such as coordinating travel for staff/consultants/participants, processing payment requests, filing/copying/shipping documents, and other tasks related to backstopping field office activities and event planning.
Conduct special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in political science, international relations, regional studies or additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis
Fluency in a foreign language and/or technical knowledge specific to the needs of the team highly desired
Knowledge of, experience and interest in the region
Strong attention to detail with experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
Experience with event planning and managing logistics is strongly desired
Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired

Salary

The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Bachelor's degree is $17.00. The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Master's degree is $18.00.
