Duties

The Technical Director, Social and Behavior Change (SBC), will work in close collaboration with the Chief of Party to ensure SBC approaches and interventions are sound and support the results and goals for the anticipated Uganda Social and Behavior Change Activity. Lead development of SBC approaches and interventions in coordination with partners and ensure quality, timeliness, and efficiency of all products and activities generated. Ensure adherence to global standards of excellence in SBC programming. Collaboration with the Technical Director, MERL, to monitor Activity results and adjust interventions. Responsible for the quality and accuracy of technical interventions and results. Based in Kampala, this position is contingent on funder approval of key personnel and availability of funds.

Qualifications

Minimum of 12+ years of relevant technical management experience (including 8+ years of leadership/line management experience) in similar SBC programs.

Prior work experience in NGO is preferred.

Knowledge of state-of-the-art SBC models and strategies

Experience applying proven SBC approaches for audience segmentation and addressing different types of health and development behaviors, use of life stage frameworks, and integration across health areas/sectors desired.

Experience designing activities to address behaviors using communication/non-communication-based approaches.

Understanding of social norms/community dynamics influencing behaviors.

Experience in developing and implementing SBC strategies, projects, and programs in East Africa (preferably Uganda) that have demonstrated impact.

Track record of achieving results in a development context, working in teams effectively, and fostering partnerships, including private sector.

Ability to create and maintain effective working relations with host country government personnel, stakeholders, NGO partners, and international donor agencies.

Ability to set priorities with deadlines/multi-tasking.

Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in related field
