City of Memphis AmeriCorps VISTA

About the organization

The City of Memphis AmeriCorps VISTA Team is a group of AmeriCorps VISTAs coordinated by the City of Memphis. Our mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. We work throughout Memphis to end poverty through capacity building and innovation. Our team is part of a nationwide program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency, that engages over 5,000 people in service with AmeriCorps VISTA every year. Our members have been retired persons, mid-life career changers, recent graduates, and everything in between.

Duties

The City of Memphis (CoM) AmeriCorps VISTA program will host five (5) Summer VISTA Associates. The VISTAs will serve an 8-week term. The Summer VISTA project will align with the Education and Healthy Futures focus areas. The Summer VISTA project goal is to work collaboratively with government, in developing our youth and adults; empowering them to pursue paths toward education and healthy life styles attainment. This program is expected to benefit over 500 children and adults living in poverty. Two Summer Associates will be assigned to program design and preparation for the City of Memphis Play Your Park program.
