Learn from Travel is a sustainable tourism and academic travel company with the mission to enrich the traveler and the host. We provide life-changing global learning experiences to students while making a positive economic impact on the host community. We don’t just show students the sights of the destination country. We arrange engaging discussions with community leaders, environmentalists, directors of nonprofit organizations, and other local experts from whom students gain invaluable insight. Our programs are culturally-immersive to the greatest extent possible, resulting in strong connections between students and host country nationals. Duties

Before Program
Review and understand group itinerary, program objectives
Review, update emergency plan for program
Visit/contact service providers in destination country to confirm reservations
Call or email group if required

During
Arrive to destination prior to group arrival
Accompany group from arrival at airport until departure
Be fully available to group during all scheduled activities and for emergencies at all times
Pay for services with cash or company credit card, retain copies of receipts in an organized fashion, make digital copies of receipts, keep a record of cash expenses, balance cash expenses on a nightly basis
Serve as a professional, friendly, and informed host, translator and tour guide.
Stay in lodging facilities with group and share meals with group
Provide cultural, historical, and political context to support activities and facilitate learning
Ensure smooth logistics for activities by confirming reservations, communicating with providers, adapting to changes, and keeping group on time
Facilitate group activities with translation, cultural interpretation, and guiding questions
Check in with group leaders, LFT leadership to guarantee a high-quality experience
Resolve emergencies/conflicts if they arise
Document program when possible, sharing best photos and videos to LFT leadership for social
Collect group feedback

After
Discuss group feedback with LFT
Complete accounting process, send hard copies of receipts to LFT

Qualifications

1-2 years customer facing experience in eco-tourism, field-based international education, international service-learning, or similar sector of the tourism industry

Experience with cash management

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Gregariousness, strong interpersonal skills, and passion for customer service

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think on the spot

Familiarity with Latin America through travel, work, or live abroad experiences. Particularly, familiarity with Panama, Mexico, Ecuador, Belize, Brazil, and/or Cuba is desired.

Prior Peace Corps or similar long term immersive experience in Latin America, highly desired

Prior experience in a leadership role

Passion for responsible tourism and international education

CPR / First Aid and/or Wilderness Rescue certification desired

Salary

Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Travel expenses will be covered.
