Texas Health and Human Services — which includes the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services — has hundreds of programs and services that help more than 7 million Texans a month live better lives.
The Special Projects Unit VISTA Member will work on projects that improve understanding of issues and needs of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), including older adults. Projects will aim to increase the capacity to provide services for individuals with IDD including older adults in Texas. The Member will work with their supervisor using both initiative and independent judgment to assist in the streamlining of processes and activities within the unit. The Member will review rules and regulations related to Long Term Services and Supports; conduct research; analyze data to determine options and impacts; develop recommendations; and write high-quality summary documents. The selected Member will be a part of the Aging Services AmeriCorps VISTA project and will work with their supervisor and project leads to set priorities and complete assigned projects. The Member will coordinate with their supervisor to develop guidelines, policies and procedures for the unit and monitor compliance with policies and procedures. They will assist in guiding the work of advisory groups and committees.
Member will: (1) work as part of a team on projects that aim to improve the lives of Texans with IDD, behavioral health issues, and/or the aging; and (2) work with Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) staff to identify gaps in services related to housing, transportation, community integration or other supports and services needed to fully eng
