This is an entry level/trainee PD leading to the full performance PD Social Insurance Specialist (Claims Specialist) GS-105-11-#5E237. The employee in this entry-level position works in a training capacity toward the full performance level position. Management arranges structured training and development activities to provide experience and technical competence in the methods, procedures, principles, and techniques of the full performance level. The appropriate manager may noncompetitively promote the trainee to the next grade provided work at the higher level continues to exist, the employee has demonstrated the ability to perform it, and the trainee meets time-in-grade and other administrative requirements.

Assignments in this position are developmental in nature; the trainee works under the general direction of the designated supervisor, who sets overall objectives and deadlines. During this period of development, the supervisor or higher-level employee provides instruction in terms of expected results, as well as additional, specific directions for new, difficult, or special assignments including suggested procedures, sources of information, or reporting formats and techniques. The supervisor reviews work in terms of the results achieved.

At the entry level, work assignments are not as broad or inclusive as those of the next higher-level. Management selects assignments to enhance the trainee’s development of the skills and abi



A. I have 3 years of progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. One year of this experience must be equivalent to the GS-4 level.
B. I do not have experience but have a bachelor's degree or 120 semester/180 quarter hours or the equivalent leading to a bachelor's degree.
C. I have a combination of A and B as described above.
D. My experience and/or education does not meet any of the descriptions in A, B or C.


A. I have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal Service by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized experience is experience that is in or directly related to the work of the position. Please refer to the vacancy announcement for examples of specialized experience.
B. I do not have 52 weeks of specialized experience but have a bachelor's degree and meet the definition of superior academic achievement as described in the vacancy announcement.
C. I do not have the 52 weeks of specialized experience but have one full year of graduate level education. For a definition of one full year, refer to the vacancy announcement.
D. I have a combination of A and B or C as described above.
E. My experience and/or education does not meet the descriptions in A, B, C or D.
