Sitting Bull College Growing Native American Agriculture

Sitting Bull College

This project aims to build community capacity to raise vegetables and other agricultural products for both self-sustenance and to be sold in community markets. Establishing these markets will create a network of producers and entrepreneurs and create new economic opportunity that will help to alleviate local poverty. This project will develop and disseminate culturally relevant information about agricultural production and agribusiness to the community through workshops and presentations. The community markets will also increase access to educational resources and promote local youth engagement.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work with community members to promote local entrepreneurship, develop and distribute outreach materials, and build capacity by improving communication between community stakeholders. They will work with the Sitting Bull College Agriculture Extension team to open community markets for local producers.

The ideal candidate will have experience with agriculture, community outreach, and economic development. The applicant should also demonstrate strong cultural competency. Applicants who have completed an Associate’s Degree are eligible to apply, but a Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
