Duties

Thousands of Minnesota kids struggle with reading and math. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and BE MORE for these students. Make a difference as an Elementary Literacy Tutor by helping students in kindergarten through third grade to become better readers. Or make a difference as a Math Tutor by helping students in grades 4-8 to improve their skills and get on track with math. With great training and onsite coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one or with pairs to help kids develop their skills and confidence!

This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards and community impact are great! You’ll join an amazing group of more than 1,500 Minnesota tutors, determined to help students be more.

Qualifications

Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service:

Are dependable and have a history of good attendance
Able to understand and follow instructions
Can set a pace and maintain a schedule with students
Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
Can speak, read, and write English fluently
18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States*
• Have served no more than three terms with AmeriCorps State or National Program
• Agree to and successfully complete a background check

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
