Big Bend National Park is one of the largest and most diverse national parks in the United States, encompassing over 801,000 acres of Chihuahuan Desert and mountains with varied scenery and diversity of plant and animal life. It is situated in remote southwest Texas along the Rio Grande which is the international boundary between the United States and Mexico. Big Bend is the only National park to contain an entire mountain range within its borders. The park community consists of approx. 250 people, including employees and their families. The park has a post office, gas stations, camper stores, restaurant, and lodge. Recreational opportunities include hiking, bird watching, photography, backcountry camping, bicycling, and river rafting. Elevation at Panther Junction is 3,800 feet. The incumbent is responsible for the administrative functions of the division. This Includes such responsibilities as tracking the division’s budget, processing payroll, processing travel, assisting with HR related tasks, as well as other functions as time permits. Those administrative functions are performed under the guidance of the park Administrative officer. The selectee works closely with the park Chief Ranger, often serving as an assistant to the Chief Ranger in a variety of capacities. The incumbent interacts regularly with division personnel (from wild land fire fighters, Park Rangers, and Dispatchers) to problem solve issues.

My ideal candidate is someone who is hungry to learn and for new experiences, humble in their approach to life, brings a diverse perspective to the operation, as well as exhibiting strong emotional intelligence. The person selected must be highly organized, self-motivated and capable of tracking a variety of assignments over long periods of time.
A contagiously positive 'can do' attitude is a must, along with a genuine interest in working and living in a remote National Park community. Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required.
