The Center for Communication Programs (CCP) at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health seeks a Project Director for the anticipated USAID Social and Behavior Change Research Activity (SBC Research). This project will focus on strengthening the generation and utilization of SBC evidence that has the potential to address the agency of individuals and communities to improve the uptake and continuation of healthy behaviors.
This position is contingent on donor funding.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
• Lead the development of project tools, methods, and activities to expand social and behavioral science research, monitoring, and research utilization.
• Leverage CCP institutional partnerships and highly experienced technical experts around the world to develop priorities and facilitate alignment with key groups.
• Oversee learning and research agendas in collaboration with USAID and project stakeholders.
• Lead the design and implementation of a capacity strengthening strategy for local institutions that is rooted in a social justice framework.
• Support adaptive management systems to facilitate continuous quality improvement of project activities and approaches.
• Ensure proper staffing including leadership and oversight are in place to meet program goals and objectives.
• Secure and oversee USAID Mission field buy-in activities at regional and local levels.
* • Ensure compliance with USG regulations, JHU, and CCP policies.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
• At least 10 years of experience in a leadership role, forging and strengthening both research and SBC implementation partnerships.
• Master’s degree in public health or related field.
• Experience in a senior management role overseeing a large (>$3 million/year) USAID-funded project and/or multiple simultaneous program activities with different objectives and geographical focus areas.
• Experience managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Extensive experience implementing large-scale donor-funded projects internationally.
• At least 15 years of experience in a leadership role, forging and strengthening research and SBC implementation partnerships.
• PhD in public health or related field.
• Knowledge of social justice framework and positive public health approach.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Extensive understanding of gender issues, gender transformative programming, and individual and community strengthening approaches.
• Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods of monitoring and evaluating SBC programs and assessing individual and community level agency.
• Strong background in social and behavior change (SBC) and strengthening local capacity to conduct research and/or implement SBC programs.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate diverse implementation teams with remote team members to meet program goals.
• Demonstrated implementation knowledge in USAID priority countries.

• Supervises a team of 20-30 people with 5-7 direct reports; Direct reports include senior technical staff, finance and operations, and senior researchers.
