1. Watch and review films, both as written reviews and in discussion with the programming team while considering a balance of film analysis and using film as a tool for social justice;
2. Communicate with filmmakers, film distributors, and film industry members;
3. Track and log films using a database with acute attention to detail;
4. Assist with filmmaker and staff travel including flights and group bookings at hotel;
5. Assist with hosting filmmakers and special guests of the festival, which includes arranging travel itineraries and other miscellaneous duties that may arise, including organizing Empire State Building tours/other activities;
6. Collect materials required for the marketing of the films including film information sheets, contracts, images, texts and any other additional materials;
7. Assist in the creation of newsletters, including by proofing the printed festival program, e-flyers and film festival website for NY/London Film Festivals;
8. Assist with outreach and promotion to local organizations with interests related to the films being screened, which includes attendance at the IFC Center prior to the festival on June 6-7, 2020 to promote the festival to audience members of relevant films;
9. Process team invoices;
10. Assist with the public opening night’s events as well as selected panel discussions and related events during the festival; and
11. Carry out other responsibilities as may be required.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree is highly desirable, preferably in the areas of Fine Arts, film, media studies, human rights or related fields.
Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant experience in film programming, community outreach, event planning, non-profit management and/or related media is preferred.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. Experience in professional or non-professional reviewing and/or programming film events is preferred.
2. Experience assisting with film festivals or logistically complex events is preferred.
3. Experience working with GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets and Microsoft Word required, experience working with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver and other HTML editors is desirable.
4. Exceptional and meticulous attention to detail is required.
5. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required.
6. Proficiency in a language other than English is desirable.
7. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with local partners and external media partners are required.
8. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple constituencies simultaneously, working effectively toward deadlines is required.
9. Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.
10. Demonstrated professional or personal commitment to human rights and/or social justice issues is preferred.
