SYLA is a charter high school for youth ages 14-21. Its model combines classroom instruction by a certified teacher with enabling students to learn a trade while in school, providing learners with the knowledge, skills, and self-discipline necessary to become successful citizens in a global society. Duties

1. Responsibilities will vary depending on the nature of the service level requested.
2. Assist with activities such as youth program customer intake, orientation, certification, and work readiness training along with other events and youth development.
3. Provides general administrative support such as filing, typing documents and organizing information.
4. Assist with customer interactions and follow-up calls for youth programs.
5. Manage youth participant/parent/community inquiries regarding programs and services and provides relevant program information.
6. Participates in the collection and preparation of data relative to the work of the department.
7. Shows interest and concern for all youth services customers, treating them with respect and care.
8. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Some college experience preferred.
2. One to two years’ experience in a customer service environment.
3. Computer skills necessary to utilize word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
4. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, participants and partner agencies.
5. Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish required.
6. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
7. Mental ability to handle pressures related to performing multiple tasks requiring concentration and attention to detail and dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.
8. Physical ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
9. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (evenings/weekends).
10. Valid Michigan Driver’s License. Incumbent must also have reliable means of transportation to travel to various locations outside of the office.
