About the organization
The Oregon Health Authority AmeriCorps VISTA Partnership Project aims to alleviate, prevent and reduce poverty by engaging new public health professionals in a year of full-time service in major public health organizations to create or expand public health systems capacity. The project aims to reduce poverty in our communities by building sustainable public health programs and systems that ensure health equity, community resiliency and improved health outcomes.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 50 years.
In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year.
This VISTA position is a part of a health equity and COVID-19 response initiative that aims to include the voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health planning and response efforts for COVID-19. The AmeriCorps member will: • Evaluate the state public health incident management team’s ability to address the needs of low-income communities during the COVID-19 response • Revise statewide public health hazard vulnerability analyses with a COVID-19 lens • Integrate nonprofit organizations serving low-income communities into the statewide Cascadia Rising 2022 earthquake exercise
- Availability to serve complete service term (06/07/2021 – 06/06/2022); dates not flexible.
- Must be 18 year or older, legally able to work in the U.S., and pass a background check
- Must have a college degree
- Must be willing and able to relocate to Oregon
- Effective oral, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds
- Interest in public health and poverty alleviation
